Best Exterior House Paint Syracuse NY

When it comes to choosing an exterior house paint for your home there are a number of choices.  You have big box brands such as Valspar, Behr and retail paint stores around Syracuse that carry Benjamin Moore, Pittsburgh Paints, Sherwin-Williams or Glidden.  In this blog we will focus on products that as a painting contractor I use regularly on the outside of customers homes because they are the best.  By using certain products consistently I know what to expect for coverage, durability and looks-beauty.  Coverage means how well it covers what you are painting.  If cheap is what you buy expect to have to cover it a few times and paint it again after a couple years.  The old saying you get what you pay for holds very true with the quality of the paint you choose.  For what it cost to buy a high quality paint you will thank your painter and yourself for the results.  Durability is how long can you expect the paint to last.  Once again the better quality you choose the longer it will last. When it comes to how good or great the paint will look when it sets up paint retailers have the upper hand.  Your local paint store does this day in and day out morning, noon and night.  They know what they are doing and back it up.  After going with big box on occasions there is no match for the professionalism and consistency you receive from pro's at a retail store.

In the paragraphs that follow I will explain what to look for when buying an exterior paint and the brands that are the best based on 20 years experience.
  • First you have latex paints.  Latex means water is used as the main ingredient in the paints mixture and serves as its carrier meaning that all the minerals or colors you are applying will be transported on to your house in water more or less.  This is not what you want to buy.  Latex paints flat out suck and you will regret wasting your time or your painters time using it.  It does not last long and can cause a variety of issues such as blistering or peeling prematurely.
  • Second you have acrylic the king of exterior paints in this day and age.  Acrylic paints use chemicals vs water as a binding agent and to transfer it from can to clapboards.  Acrylic paint is very elastic and flexible so that with upstate NY's range of weather it will expand and contract leading to less failure, no peeling or flaking.  It does cost a little bit more than latex but it far outshines it in every way possible.
So when you hire a painting contractor to paint your home make sure they are using a high quality paint that is 100% acrylic and  from a retailer.  In my experience Benjamin Moore's Regal and Aura are the best.  The coverage, durability, flow and colors with these paints can't be beat.  Coming in next in line is Sherwin- William's Duration and Super Paint.  With either of these brands you will thank yourself and your painter for choosing the best for your home.  Many of the homes I have painted using these paints look great 10 years later.
