This week Donigan Painting is working with two customers in Lyncourt. Ed and Ashley both have houses that need exterior painting work done to be compliant with code enforcement. In Ed's case the Town of Salina cited him for his rental proeprties chipping and peeling paint. In order to make it right we will be containing the areas being scraped to collect the paint chips and dust safely. Once this has been done the plastic used will be sprayed down with water to keep the dust down, rolled up, and discarded in contractor heavy duty trash bags. The next step will be thoroughly priming all the problem areas then top coating them with a quality paint. In this case we will be using Benjamin Moore Ultra Spec Exterior flat white. With Ashleys home she will need the same type of work done to bring it up to code. Recently Donigan Painting worked with a homeowner in Cicero. John and Jill wanted to update a bunch of their homes first floor rooms that had dated wallpaper and colors from another time. They are getting ready to sell their family home to move to a ranch house for their golden years. Since the Spring market will be heating up with many other sellers and buyers in the real estate market they wanted to have an edge over some of the newer homes in their area. We started by establishing what would be the best colors to entice potential buyers. Today's trendy choice has been light grays with bright whites on the molding and doors. The chose to go with Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter in an eggshell finish for the walls, Impervo Satin Bright White, and Pittsburgh Ceiling Paint. We removed the wallpaper from the kitchen, living room, and dining room. Since it was newer old wallpaper it came off fairly easily and made prepping the walls for paint a much smoother process. This involved thoroughly washing the walls, hand scraping off portions of paste and paper, and then finally sanding them with fine grit sandpaper for a smooth finish. Once the nail holes were filled, the moldings gaps were caulked, and ceiling water stains were neutralized two coats of ceiling paint were applied. Following this two coats of paint were applied to the walls to be finished with one coat of trim paint to the molding and doors. The results are stunning and brought new life to a dated home that is now on par with all the rest in their neighborhood.

Recently Donigan Painting worked with a customer in Fayetteville. Mike called to have some interior work done. Previously we had painted the exterior of his home and replaced fascia trim on the front of his house. His older home had settled and in many rooms the ceilings had cracked. In addition he also wanted to paint his kitchen, entry hall, and two bedrooms. After meeting with him and doing a walk through to assess exactly what needed to be done I gave him a price on the spot and followed up with a typed quote that listed in detail what would be done. The contract was signed, colors were selected, the start date was set, and a deposit was sent. The first day we started with floating out all the damaged ceilings with joint compound and then allowed them 12 hours to setup-dry. The same day the kitchen and hallways wallpaper were removed, the walls were scrubbed clean, and inconsistencies were floated out on the plaster walls. The next day we sanded out the ceilings then painted them twice, put one coat of paint on the kitchen, entry, and bedrooms walls after sanding and cleaning them. Next, the second coat of paint was put on the walls in each room, the door-base-window molding was caulked to remove gaps. The last day onsite we painted all the molding with one coat of Benjamin Moore's Impervo Satin White. Benjamin Moore's Regal Select Interior in eggshell finishes were used for the walls and Pittsburgh's Ceiling paint for the ceilings. He was very pleased with the results.

Recently Donigan Painting Worked with a customer in Syracuse's Sedgwick Neighborhood. Jim and Cathy were looking to brighten up their large living room room and entry hall-stairway. The original colors were tan. I recommended a softer off whites to lighten the areas up. After choosing colors from Sherwin-Williams Interior Collection we proceeded with Arcade White in the entry-stairway and Westhighland White in the living room. We meticulously prepared the walls by floating out inconsistencies on the plaster walls, filling nail-screw holes and sanding the walls down to smooth for a glass like finish. Once prep was completed two coats of Sherwin-Williams Cashmere in eggshell finish were applied, with sanding in between, to complete their project. This spring they have contracted us to change out the color on their exterior trim and doors from a mint green to a soft beige. As soon as the weather breaks and temperatures are consistently above 50 we will be there to complete their next project.

Recently Donigan Painting worked with a customer in Lyncourt. Ashley just bought a home and needed to have some exterior painting done to satisfy the FHA bank loan. With first time home buyers that choose this option for financing the government has strict protocols for chipping-peeling paint on older homes that may contain lead. Having worked with 100's of homeowners in this exact situation my company was in a position to fix this problem easily satisfying their requirements. Since the weather this time of year is a bit challenging we had to be a bit flexible in our approach with the small windows of temperatures above 50 degrees. To get the ball rolling we performed the prep work while the temps were still in the 40's. This included laying out heavy mil plastic to cover the ground, hand scraping the peeling paint, containing it with the plastic, thoroughly cleaning the areas we scraped with a hepa vacuum to remove all fine particles, properly bagging it and discarding of it legally. We had two days with temperatures in the 50's for 8-12 hours giving us the right window to apply the paint and allow it enough time to setup before the temps dropped again. The bank inspector showed up as we were packing up and approved the work allowing Ashley to move forward smoothly with this process. We threw in a couple extra's like her front door and a few overlooked areas just to make sure there were no snags and it payed off.

Last Fall Donigan Painting Worked with a homeowner on Syracuse's Northside. Kelli called for an exterior quote for her asbestos siding. After a color consult and choosing her beige-sage combo we went right to work. In this case her siding had accumulated a bunch of areas with mold. So we started by bleaching the problem areas then pressure washing the entire house to remove dirt and dust. Cleaning a house prior to painting is key so that the paint has a clean surface to cling on. Once it had dried out we started in painting the trim with Sherwin-Williams A-100 Exterior Paint - Shagreen in an eggshell finish. Following this one coat of SW's A-100 Harmonis Tan was applied. We scraped and sanded the entry stairways and two coated them with porch enamel in battle ship grey. Following the exterior painting of her home she contracted us to paint her entire interior over the winter which included many rooms with wallpaper, repainting all the ceilings-walls, and polyurethaning her original oak molding through out.

Recently Donigan Painting worked with a customer in East Syracuse. Debbie called to have her kitchen, family room, and dining areas painted. She chose Sherwin-Williams Lounge Green in an eggshell finish. The ceilings were painted with SW's Eminence Ceiling Paint one coat. The walls were 3 coated with Promar 200 and sanded in between coats with 220 grit for a uniform, smooth finish. Her base, door, and window molding was painted with ProClassic Bright White Satin. All nail holes, gaps in the molding, dents-dings were caulked and floated with joint compound. The results are fit for Good House Keeping. We fit her in over winter break so that it coordinated with her families ski trip and did not effect the daily routine. She initially had some trouble picking a color so I recommended Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer to paint her rooms online to get a good idea how each color looked. Once the winter weather breaks for good she has us coming back to fix water damage caused from a leaky roof to her family rooms ceiling. In this case we will be removing a water logged section with new sheetrock then texturing it to match the rooms popcorn ceiling finish. One thing leads to another when you do excellent work!
