This past week Donigan Painting worked with a homeowner in the SU area on Allen St.  Linda's 1920's colonial needed some touchups and the porch floors stained.  The previous painting company did a less than stellar job 4 years prior and the paint was rapidly peeling and had failed in many areas when I arrived to fix it.  Linda explained to me that the company who did the job rushed thru the work and left her very dissatisfied with the results.  I assured her that it would be done right the first time with us and explained exactly what I would be doing and the products being used.  The pressure treated pine on her porch floors was painted the first time so this time around it would be stained so the wood can breath.  After thoroughly hand scraping and cleaning the porch floor decks two coats of Cabot's Solid Deck Stain was applied in a light grey to match. The cedar clapboards on all four sides of her home were hand scraped, oil primed and two coated with Sherwin-Williams Resilience to match the current color.  Here is how it turned out!

This week Donigan Painting worked at a long time customers house in the SU area.  Zoltan and Lorraine called me to paint the south side of their cedar shake on the exterior .   Over the years they have hired my company to paint sections of their home.  First the wood shutters were removed, thoroughly hand scraped, repaired with new wood screws, primed and painted 3x flat black.  Since it was built in the early 1900's plastic was put down to collect the paint chips and dust created from scraping.   The areas being scraped were wet down with a garden house to keep dust to a minimum before starting.  After the scraping was finished the plastic is wet down with a garden sprayer and goose neck bagged in contractor heavy mil trash bags.  All bare wood was oil primed with Zinsser's Cover Stain.  The roof below the shakes was covered with contractors paper and ducked tape down to prevent any paint from hitting their brand new shingles.  After the primer set up two coats of Benjamin Moore Ultra Spec Semi-Gloss White were applied and the shutters were rehung with new hardware.  We also painted their garage doors and a few sections that also needed attention.  Here is how it turned out!

This week Donigan Painting worked with a customer getting ready to list their home on the real estate market.  Josh called me from a referral from a previous customer.  They just bought a new home and needed to clean up their current house.  He had concerns about the stained vaulted ceilings in the master bedroom and the dingy concrete floor in the basement.  After discussing his project we came up with a reasonable number that worked for the both of us and work was started that weekend.  Stains on the bedroom ceiling were primed with Zinsser Stain Blocker and one coated with Pittsburgh Ceiling Paint from Purcell's.  The basement floor was thoroughly vacuumed then mopped before two coats of Floor& Porch Enamel were applied in a satin finish.  Josh and his wife were very pleased with the end results and will be contracting me to work on their new home in a couple of months.  Here is how the basement turned out!

Recently Donigan Painting worked with a long time customer in Strathmore to continue to restore her 1920's California Bungalow.  Dorothy is 91 years old and has lived in the same house for 70 years in this neighborhood.  She has contracted me over a number of years to do sections of her home as she can afford it.  Last summer both dormers were painted as well as the garage.  Last week she scheduled me to paint the front porch clapboard, molding and floor.  The last time the house was painted Doug of Doug's Fish Fry Skaneateles did the work decades ago so it has been quite a while and needed plenty of tlc.  All surfaces being painted were thoroughly hand scraped to remove peeling paint, scrubbed with Simple Green and then rinsed before oil primer was applied to the bare wood.  Two Coats of Benjamin Moore's Ultra Spec Exterior Bright White Flat Sheen were then applied to the clapboards as well as two coats of Porch & Floor Enamel Battleship Grey Low Lustre  and Fall Harvest Flat Sheen to the molding.  The stair railing was also two coated with black gloss enamel.  Here is how it turned out!

Yesterday Donigan Painting worked with a customer in North Syracuse.  Josh and his wife are moving and need to spruce up their home with some new paint before they put it on the market.  This job came as a referral from his mother in law who's home I painted the interior of last summer in Manlius before she sold it.  Josh's master bedroom vaulted ceiling had some stains on it that made it unattractive to potential buyers.  His basement floor was originally tiled and had been removed leaving it unfinished.  To start the ceiling stains in the bedroom were spot primed with Kilz Stain Blocker.  All the furniture was covered with plastic, the floors were covered with drop cloths and the furniture was centered.  One coat of Pittsburgh Ceiling Paint from Purcell's was applied leaving the ceiling looking brand new.  The previous painter had not cut in the walls tightly so I recut straight lines along the wall to ceiling line.  The next job to tackle was the basement floor.  To get it prepped for paint it was thoroughly vacuumed then damp mopped to remove dirt and dust.  Two coats of concrete floor enamel in battleship grey were applied leaving the floor looking magnificent with a slight satin shine.  Josh and his wife were so pleased that they have contracted me to paint the interior of their new home in Liverpool in a month.

This week Donigan Painting worked with a customer in East Syracuse.  Fred and Mary had hired another painting company who pulled a no show the week they were scheduled to start.  From a referral they reached our company and we provided immediate sales and service.  Their home was originally a pale yellow that had faded over many years and become covered in mold and mildew.  We started the job by applying Tri-sodium Phosphate, Bleach and Simple Green cleaning solutions to remove dirt-dust-mold-mildew and the chalky resin buildup produced on older aluminum sided homes.  The shutters and downspouts were removed and loose siding was clipped back in place.  After the house dried two coats of Benjamin Moore's Ultra Spec Exterior in the color Green Bay were applied with a sprayer.  The shutters and garage door trim were two coated with Ben Moore's Twinkle Little Star Yellow in a pearl finish for a light shine-sheen.  The front door sidelights and molding was two coated with Sherwin-Williams A-100 White.  Once the paint was applied the downspouts and shutters were rehung.  Fred and Mary were so pleased with the results that they provided an online Google review with 5 stars and an excellent recommendation!  Here is how it turned out.

Yesterday Donigan Painting had the pleasure of working indoors at a customers home in Jamesville repainting the downstairs half bathroom.  A realtor referred my service to this couple and we came thru and delivered the results they asked for.  Joanne called me last week to provide a quote.  After they picked out the color at Purcell's Wallpaper & Paint Co in a Benjamin Moore product we set an immediate start date.  Their flexibility with the day helped it work with Syracuse's crazy weather.  Upon arrival the wood floor, vanity, toilet, light fixture were covered with paper and plastic and taped off.  A few problem areas on the walls were floated out with joint compound, sanded and cleaned.  Then two coats of the color Blue Bell in a satin sheen were applied to the walls and one coat of Regal Select bright white semi-gloss were applied to the door and molding.  They were very pleased with the results and have contracted me to repaint their master bathroom, install a new linoleum floor and shoe mold in a month. Typically it takes a few weeks to get to a customers project but with smaller day jobs like this if they can be flexible more than likely I can find a day during the week or weekend to make sure they are taken care of.
