Donigan Painting had the pleasure of working with a new customer last week in Fayetteville-Manlius NY.  Joe and Lisa just bought a new home that was dated with 90's wallpaper and colors from the same time.  They planned on moving in at the end of this month so time was of the essence completing the work.  The entire interior including the ceilings, walls and molding through out needed to be painted.  In half of the rooms wallpaper was removed and some repair was needed to fix areas of the wall.  All the bedrooms molding was original wood finish they wanted to update to bright white.  To start all ceilings were painted with Pittsbugh Ceiling Paint from Purcell's twice.  This was followed by two coats of paint to all the walls with a neutral earth tone color palate through out from Benjamin Moores Interior Collection.  The product used for the walls was Ultra-Spec 500 Interior no voc.  The molding was primed with PPG Acrylic Primer twice then finish coated with Impervo Waterborne Paint in a satin bright white.  They are very happy with the results and have contracted us to paint the exterior this spring.

Last week Donigan Painting worked with a commercial shipping business to update there warehouse offices.  They chose to go with their company colors for most of the areas and a SU-Dallas themed colors for two of the offices. All the offices and common areas where primed with PPG Acrylic Primer so that the paint sticks for years to come.  The company's colors are crimson and gray so multiple coats of paint were applied.  We used Benjamin Moore Ultra-Spec 500 for the brick and blocks and DTM for the steel doors/molding.  After about a week of work we completed the project on time with a very happy customer.  Work was coordinated with the ceiling contractor and flooring contractor so that everyone had their space and were able to complete their jobs.

Last week Donigan Painting worked with a longtime customer in Syracuse.  Tina and Joe wanted to update their kitchen by painting the cabinets.  We narrowed the color choice down by looking at pictures of what their ideal kitchen looks like.  From there 5 days of prep work followed till the final product.  Here's a quick look at how an optimal finish is achieved that is level with no brush, roller or spray patterns, drips-sags, dust, hair.
All the doors and hardware were removed.   All the surfaces being painted were cleaned then sanded and cleaned thoroughly to remove dust.  The doors, drawers, and cabinet faces were primed twice with a high quality primer then sanded and cleaned.  Three coats of Sherwin Williams Creamy  in Valspar Furniture Paint satin sheen were then applied allowing 12 hours between coat time for it to setup.  All hardware was replaced and the doors-drawers refastened.  Check out the pictures below!

Donigan Painting spent last week refinishing a long time customers original 1920's oak hardwoods at their university colonial.  Susan contracted us to bring new life to her original oak floors.  In addition to painting we also refinish and install hardwoods.  Luckily her floors were in fair shape so two sand paper courses later they were smooth as ice and ready for polyurethane.   MinWax Clear Satin Oil Polyurethane and a lambs wool applicator were used

to apply two coats.  Between coats the floor was pole sanded with 220 grit sandpaper and thoroughly cleaned.  Heat returns were removed, cleaned and painted black.  The steal heat registers in the floors were removed, cleaned and polished.  The total cost with materials was around 2,500.  Base and quarter round molding were installed ,caulked and painted in the dining room.  A few weeks before I painted the living room, dining room, entry hall, half bath's ceilings, walls, doors-molding.  This winter she has also contracted us to paint the second floor bedrooms and in the spring the exterior.  Susan has been very pleased with the results!

Next month we will be refacing kitchen cabinets in an older home were the customers want to update without breaking the bank on new cabinets.  A blog with pics will follow.

Recently Donigan Painting worked with a long time customer in the Syracuse University neighborhood.  Ernest and Sue called the pro's back to get it done right the first time painting their living room, dining room and stairway.  Each room had special attention paid to the prep work so that the paint looks fantastic for years to come.  In order to make this all happen correctly we sanded the walls using 220 grit to knock down any previous nap, dust or snags.  Next all nail and screw holes were filled and sanded flush.  Irregularities in the walls were floated with joint compound, sanded and cleaned.  The ceilings were painted once with Pittsburgh Ceiling Paint Flat White.  The crown was two coated with Benjamin Moore's Ultra-Spec 500 White Satin after being sanded and cleaned.  The original molding and windows were hand scraped, sanded, cleaned, primed(acrylic), and two coated with the same Moore product.  Caulk was put in every seam and knocked down with a clean wet rag before paint was applied.  Drop cloths, paper, plastic and tape are a staple on every Donigan Painting site so that all your property and belongings are protected.  Their furniture was centered before we started and then reset when the job was finished.  Outlet and switch covers were rehung and any hardware that was removed was replaced.  They are very happy with the results and have contracted us to paint the exterior of the home next year and refinish their oak floors this winter.

Last week Donigan Painting worked with a new home owner in Syracuse's Sedgwick Neighborhood.  Ron and Nicole called us to quote removing wallpaper throughout, repairing water damage to plaster & lath on a bedroom wall and painting the interior before moving in.  After accepting the bid we signed the contract and work started shortly after.  In the soon to be nursery a 4x8 section of plaster and lath was removed that was damaged from a roof leak.  The plaster was scored then systematically removed in sections to maintain the rest of the walls integrity.  The lath wood was carefully cut out so that the rest of the wall was not damaged.  Blocking was installed in the wall then new sheetrock was hung.  Two pieces of rock were used to plum up the wall to the same thickness it previously was.  Joints were taped and then mudded to make the wall flush with the existing section.  An access panel was removed and new base molding and quarter round was installed to match.  The ceiling was two coated with Pittsburgh Ceiling Paint Flat White.  The walls were primed with PPG"s Seal Grip Primer- Acrylic before two coats of Benjamin Moore's Ultra Spec 500 in Grayish Flat Sheen were applied.  The molding, windows and trim in this room were two coated with the same primer then three coats of Behr's Satin Enamel were applied.  The walls and molding were thoroughly cleaned and sanded in between coats for a smooth-mirror like finish when the paint was applied.  All hardware was removed then reinstalled which includes window pulls-latches, outlet-switch covers, smoke alarms, doors-hinges-strike plates.  The oak floors were covered with contractors paper and taped off to keep cleaning to a minimum for are new home owners.  The hallway and stairway also had wallpaper removed and everything painted right down to the stringers and risers.  A similar gray and the same trim paint were used and applied twice.  Here is how it turned out!  The homeowners are very pleased with the results and have contracted us to paint more rooms.

Last week Donigan Painting worked with a repeat customer in Skaneateles NY.  Deb called me in a frenzy to repair rain damage.  Her house was being inspected Monday and it was Friday  The clock was ticking so the pro's went to work and executed a firm plan of attack to solve this dilemma.  With lighting speed we arrived on the scene within hours.  The water had left but there was work to be done on the sheetrock it warped so we prepared the remedy and served it up. The wall never knew what hit it but it was a one two like it had never seen.  Pow-wham done!  The wall was floated with joint compound, set up, then was sanded-cleaned-painted.  Benjamin Moore products were used to prime and paint the wall and ceiling. The paint is flashing in the pic below because it was slapped with a brush a second before.
