Last week Donigan Painting worked with a long time customer in Jamesville.  Jim and Susan wanted to repaint their master bedroom bathroom and replace the floor with new vinyl.  After meeting with them to discuss their needs and sending them a quote they decided to move forward.  We began by removing the toilet to have full access to the floor and to be able to paint behind it.  The door and window hardware was removed.  The vanity and anything not being painted was covered with painters plastic, paper and tape.  The ceiling was painted with Pittsburgh Ceiling Flat White from Purcell's.  Nail holes and imperfections were floated out with joint compound, sanded and cleaned.  The walls were then sanded with 220 grit paper to remove any snags or rough areas for a smooth glass like finish when the paint is applied.    Next the walls were cut in and two coats of Benjamin Moore Regal Select were applied in a crème pearl finish.  The linoleum was prepped with Henry Primer so that the new vinyl would adhere.  Once the primer had setup the new vinyl was carefully measured and cut then dry fitted.  After it was trimmed  to fit perfectly we rolled back one side of the vinyl and troweled the adhesive on the floor.  The vinyl was then rolled back and set with a press to remove air bubbles.  Quarter round molding was then mitered, caulked and painted with Ben Moore's Regal Classic White Semi-Gloss twice.  The window molding and door were also two coated with the same product.  A bead of white silicone caulk was applied around the shower and molding as needed.  Here is how it turned out!

Last week Donigan Painting worked with a customer in Syracuse's Sedgwick Neighborhood.  Christina called me last Fall for an estimate on painting the exterior of her home on Rugby Road.  Her house had not been painted in 20 years and needed extensive prep work before paint could be applied.  This Fall she was ready to go and we set the date to begin.  To start since her home was built before 1978 plastic was laid down around all areas being scraped to collect lead chips and dust being taken off.  Following this the plastic is sprayed with water to dampen the dust and is discarded. The windows were glazed as needed and caulk was applied to gaps around windows and doors.  Her original shutters were carefully removed, scraped, primed and spray painted with the color which was matched with the green used on the rest of the houses shutters.  Next a coat of oil primer was applied to the bare wood areas that were scraped to seal it preventing tannins and yellowing once the final coat was applied.  One coat of Benjamin Moore's Ultra Spec Exterior Flat Bright White was applied as the finish coat.  When working with older homes steps are taken to ensure that everyone is kept safe and healthy during and after the work is complete.  To make sure we are complying with all safety standards Donigan Painting is EPA RRP (Renovator-Repair-Painter) Certified to work with lead based paint.

Last week Donigan Painting worked with a new home owner in Jamesville.  John and Linda DeFrancisco called me to take a look at their new home to paint most of the first floor.  Their ranch was faux painted and they wanted to lighten it up.  After selecting new colors for the ceilings and walls in their master bedroom, living room, kitchen, hallways, laundry and garage the contract was signed and work began.  All of the crown, door and base molding was Frog Taped and draped with paper.  The walls were sanded to remove irregularities, nail-screw holes were filled and the floors were protected with contractors paper and drop cloths.  Two coats of Benjamin Moore Ultra Spec 500 Flat were applied to the ceilings in the color White Dove.  Then two coats of Ben Moore's Tapestry and Winter Wheat were applied to the walls in eggshell finishes.  The results were fantastic!  Here are some before and after pictures.

This past week Donigan Painting repainted an interior in Camillus.  Dan and Deb called me about a month ago to quote their living room, stairway and hallway that have 20 foot ceilings.  Their current color was a beige and the entry hallway had picture boxes with stylish 80's floral print they wanted removed and floated out with joint compound to match the rest of the walls.  To start all the switch and outlet covers were removed, nails-screws were removed then filled with joint compound, the picture box mold and wallpaper was removed then floated to match the walls.  The floors were covered with contractors paper and drop cloths and the painting began.  Two coats of Benjamin Moore's Ultra Spec 500 Low Sheen-Eggshell was applied in Revere Pewter and one coat of bright white semi gloss was applied to the base molding.  Here is how it turned out!

Last week Donigan Painting worked with a customer in the Tipperary Hill Neighborhood on Syracuse's west side.  Sarah called me in May to get an estimate for her two story asbestos shingle colonial on Whittier Ave.  She explained to me how she had been trying to get this done for many years but kept running into less than professional painting contractors and hassles.  We streamlined the process and got her an immediate quote and contract for service.  The date was set and we completed the work at the end of last week.  The soffit and trim was hand scraped to remove peeling paint.  Broken shingles and corner aluminum pieces were replaced.  We repaired a hole in her soffit from a bird pecking thru. The chimney was caulked with 25 year silicone caulk to match the color of the house.  After the prep work was completed one coat of Benjamin Moore's Ultra Spec Exterior Flat was applied in a custom color that was matched from a sample she provided at Purcell's Wallpaper and Paints.  The dentils were painted a terra cotta color and the soffit/trim was painted with a pine green.  To make the job complete we threw in a free porch floor repaint to put this customer over the top.  Here is how it turned out!

This past week Donigan Painting worked with a homeowner in the SU area on Allen St.  Linda's 1920's colonial needed some touchups and the porch floors stained.  The previous painting company did a less than stellar job 4 years prior and the paint was rapidly peeling and had failed in many areas when I arrived to fix it.  Linda explained to me that the company who did the job rushed thru the work and left her very dissatisfied with the results.  I assured her that it would be done right the first time with us and explained exactly what I would be doing and the products being used.  The pressure treated pine on her porch floors was painted the first time so this time around it would be stained so the wood can breath.  After thoroughly hand scraping and cleaning the porch floor decks two coats of Cabot's Solid Deck Stain was applied in a light grey to match. The cedar clapboards on all four sides of her home were hand scraped, oil primed and two coated with Sherwin-Williams Resilience to match the current color.  Here is how it turned out!

This week Donigan Painting worked at a long time customers house in the SU area.  Zoltan and Lorraine called me to paint the south side of their cedar shake on the exterior .   Over the years they have hired my company to paint sections of their home.  First the wood shutters were removed, thoroughly hand scraped, repaired with new wood screws, primed and painted 3x flat black.  Since it was built in the early 1900's plastic was put down to collect the paint chips and dust created from scraping.   The areas being scraped were wet down with a garden house to keep dust to a minimum before starting.  After the scraping was finished the plastic is wet down with a garden sprayer and goose neck bagged in contractor heavy mil trash bags.  All bare wood was oil primed with Zinsser's Cover Stain.  The roof below the shakes was covered with contractors paper and ducked tape down to prevent any paint from hitting their brand new shingles.  After the primer set up two coats of Benjamin Moore Ultra Spec Semi-Gloss White were applied and the shutters were rehung with new hardware.  We also painted their garage doors and a few sections that also needed attention.  Here is how it turned out!
