Interior Exterior House Painting Contractor Painter Syracuse NY

Donigan Painting just completed another exterior repaint in Syracuse on Westcott Street this week. Theresa called us way back in February for a quote to paint her 1920's colonial. Her house had not been painted in close to 20 years so it's shaker siding and soffit needed a lot of attention. To start the peeling paint was hand scraped and cut back to no edge. The amount of paint removed from her house could fill a 50 gallon contractor trash bag. On portions of her soffit and face trim the paint came off in sheets, as you will see if you look carefully in the before pics below. After a few days of scraping years of old buckling paint was down to bare wood and ready for primer. Two coats of PPG Seal-Grip Primer were applied. With wood this old it's normal for it to soak up the paint so we get it on there good. Five gallons of primer were applied in the course of this job. The next step was spraying out the soffit with a bright white flat paint and trimming out windows and doors. Ben Moore's Regal Select was used for both the body and trim on the house in flat sheen's. Following this we cut in the body of the house with a custom color matched gray and sprayed it out. Her front and rear porch french doors were then taken from white to another custom color matched crimson like her factory colored entry doors. To wrap it all up two coats of color matched deck stain were applied to the front porch and deck floors using Cabot Solid Stain.

Recently Donigan Painting worked with a homeowner in Dewitt. Joe called for a quote a couple of months ago to repaint the exterior of his 30 year old contemporary. The paint had lifted off the cedar clapboard. Typically you see this type of problem when no primer was applied, the wood was wet installed or both. So to start we spent the better part of a week cutting off sheets of paint on the sun sides of the house. Once the peeled paint had been removed we pressure washed all surfaces being painted to remove dust and dirt. A high grade PPG Primer, Seal Grip, was then applied twice to build it up for the finish coat. Benjamin Moore's Regal Select Exterior in Flat was applied in the same beige color that was matched at Purcell's Paints. In this case Joe was looking to get his house ready to sell so we painted two sides of the house instead of the whole thing. We wrapped up this job restaining the floor of the deck to match the rail-balusters.

Last week Donigan Painting worked with a customer in Fayetteville. Mike called for an estimate a few months back for the exterior of his new home next to Green Lakes. His split level contemporary needed a new look and fast. We started by pressure washing the entire house and the garage from top to bottom. Once it dried out we hand-scraped the peeling paint and spot primed the bare wood with a quality PPG Seal-Grip Primer. They decided to use Benjamin Moore Regal Select Exterior Flat in Kendall Charcoal and Black for their contemporary. All the soffit and doors were sprayed out in black then the charcoal was applied to the body of the house. The front porch was stained with Sikkens Solid Stain in black after being thoroughly pressures washed to wrap this house up. Here is how it turned out!

Recently Donigan Painting worked with a customer in Syracuse's Eastwood Neighborhood. Bruce, a realtor with Better Homes and Gardens, called a couple of months ago for a quote. Their early 1900's colonial needed wallpaper removed, ceilings painted, molding painted and the walls updated. We set the date shortly after meeting and work was completed last week on his wallpapered stairways, the master bedroom, and the upstairs hallway. We started the job by removing the wall paper in the stairway and upstairs hallway. Once the paper, paste backer, and glue residue was thoroughly hand scraped and scrubbed clean we went to work on floating out inconsistencies and damage on the plaster walls with joint compound. After allowing it to set up the repaired areas were sanded to flush and cleaned. With the prep work wrapped up we went right into painting all the ceilings with Pittsburgh Ceiling Paint. This set the stage to highlight the new wall colors brilliance and deep hue. Next two coats of Benjamin Moore Regal Select Interior in Daytona Peach and Blue Orchid were applied using a flat and eggshell sheen. As soon as Bruce has the faux style picked out for his stairway we will be returning to apply the effect. This interior paint job was wrapped up by painting the base-window molding and the stairway stringers bright white in a semi-gloss finish to pull it all together and shine!

Last week Donigan Painting worked with a customer in Clay, NY. Lisa and Nelson called us for a quote from a referral of a neighbor down the street that we painted recently. Their JMG built home had contractor grade flat paint that had begun to fade and needed to be freshened up. We started by painting their vaulted ceilings with one coat of Pittsburgh Ceiling Paint to brighten up the open concept kitchen-living room areas. This set the stage for maximizing the new colors pop. The contractor in this case had sprayed on texture and left it gray without painting it so the ceilings had a dull look to them the last two years they lived there. We solved this problem first. Next we cut in and applied two coats of Benjamin Moore Regal Select Interior Eggshell in Creme Carmel. Prior to the paint we pole sanded the walls with 220 grit screens to remove snags and create a smooth-mirror like finish. This is a small step that will leave your walls looking show quality for years to come that is often overlooked. This step was repeated in between paint coats for a high quality finish. Some mud work was done with a few problem areas that needed to be feathered in and floated out for a consistent finish. Here is how it turned out!
