This week Donigan Painting worked with a homeowner in Jamesville that has a large older deck that needed some attention.  Samantha and Jim emailed me and set an immediate appointment to take a look at their needs.  The next day the deck was assessed to check condition that includes:  rotted boards, painted or stained last time, type of stain previously used.  The rotted boards were replaced.  The deck was stained with a cottage red solid stain last time.  Loose or peeling stain was hand scraped and sanded off.  The floor, rail, balusters and stairs were thoroughly pressure washed and dried for about a week due to Syracuse's rainy weather lately.  The lattice and siding were covered with paper and plastic.  Then two coats of Sherwin-Williams Super Deck Solid-Caribou was applied with at least 12 hours dry time in between coats.   Here is how it turned out!

Exterior Painting Syracuse NY

Donigan Painting recently started working on a home in Syracuse's Westcott Neighborhood.  The customer called us to estimate the exterior of his 1920's colonial.  We set an appointment to meet and discuss his needs.  A detailed quote including all steps to be taken from prep work to finish was typed up and emailed within 24 hours.  After receiving a few other quotes that contained only a price our new customer decided on going with a painting contractor who spelled it all out and left nothing to be guessed.  Last week we began prep work on his house by stripping the 1st floor clapboards down to the bare cedar removing years of layers and peeling paint.  This week we will continue with the prep phase of the project by stripping a few more areas then oil priming all the bare wood.  The next step is caulking and wood putty filling holes and cracks.  Stay tuned for the finished product pics coming soon.

Exterior House Painting Syracuse NY

This past week Donigan Painting worked in Skaneateles on the interior of a customers home who needed to update the look and flow of their homes layout to entice buyers.  After Lisa Ryan, a home stager, assessed the situation we were brought in to paint a bedroom, dated wood in their stairway rail-balusters-stringers,  living room wood surround and to install crown molding throughout a few different rooms.  We started by painting the pink bedrooms ceiling and walls.  As you will see in the pictures below it was a very pink on the walls and ceiling.  We applied three coats of Sherwin-Williams Promar 200 no voc matte to the walls and two coats of Pittsburgh's Ceiling paint bright white flat.  A few areas in this bedrooms walls had buckled so they were cut out and floated with joint compound.  The stairway rail-balusters-stringers were coated with two applications of PPG's Seal-Grip Acrylic and top coated with two applications of Sherwin-Williams Pro-Classic Enamel in Pella White semi-gloss.  We also installed 150 feet of crown molding in the master bedroom-bath and upstairs hallway.  The crown was painted with the Pro-Classic Pella White as well.  The master bath was painted with SW's Promar 200 matte in a light grey from a dark red.  Here is how it all turned out.

Exterior House Painting Syracuse NY

Recently Donigan Painting worked with a Syracuse area landlord and realtor to restore her properties front porches and deck.  The previous painter had used paint on a pressure treated pine decking causing it to flake and peel prematurely making a mess.  Pressure treated decks need to be able to breath, which stain allows.  Unlike paint which is a film or solid layer stain is absorbed into the wood so that it will last much longer under wear and tear traffic patterns.  First thing we did to get this situation corrected was to pressure wash off all paint that was loose.  Next we allowed the deck to dry out for a few days so that it would absorb the stain.  A good rule of thumb is to take a water bottle and drip a teaspoon amount to see if it will be absorbed, if it beads up wait a bit longer.  We then applied two coats of Sherwin-Williams Super Deck Solid Stain in a dark grey.  Here is how it turned out!

This week Donigan Painting helped a realtor in a tight spot.  Mike called us two weeks ago and needed a hand with a property for his client that needed some work to meet FHA Loan requirement's.  With first time home buyer loans they require the exterior of the house to be free of peeling paint and the ground or surrounding areas to have no paint chips present.  On Memorial Day we hand scraped every side of the house to remove bad paint.  It was then cleaned and oil primed.  Fast forward to this past weekend and I receive a call from Mike that the appraiser is coming Monday and if it is not finished it will be a month before the closing.  This would put every one involved in a pinch so we made time Saturday to paint the entire house.  Donigan Painting regularly works with real estate agents and their clients to make sure their needs are met.  One coat of Sherwin-Williams A-100 Exterior Acrylic flat was applied to it with a green trim color in satin.  The colors were paint chip matched at Sherwin-Williams for an exact fit to the original colors.  Here is how it turned out.

Recently Donigan Painting repainted a house on Syracuse's Northside.  Paula's home was originally a dark blue with white trim.  The house was in need a thorough scraping and sanding to smooth out the cedar clapboard.  Heavy mil plastic was put down as ground cover to catch paint chips and dust to make for an easy-safe cleanup.  Since her home was built before 1978 we approached prepping it as if there was lead paint present to protect her children and us from exposure.  Before scraping we wet each area with a garden house to knock the dust down.  When we sanded we used a HEPA vacuum attached to a sander to collect all fine particles.  After the prep work was completed we pressure washed the house.  When it was dry a few days later oil primer was applied to the bare wood, paintable silicone caulk was put in gaps-seams and nail holes were filled with wood putty then sanded.  Three coats of Sherwin-Williams Resilience was applied to all areas in a classic yellow and pine green flat sheen's.  Here is how it turned out!

This week Donigan Painting repainted a camp on DeRuyter Lake for a realtor.  Halyna and Marks camp was cottage red with pine green trim.  Their camp needed some hand scraping, to be completely sanded, portions of bubbled paint were cut out, gaps were caulked with silicone paintable caulk and bare wood was oil primed.  There was an urgency to complete this project due to a near bye cottonwood tree shedding.  Once the prep work was completed we washed the camp with simple green, so we didn't harm their plants, and rinsed it.  One coat of Benjamin Moore Cottage red low lustre and pine green low gloss were applied.  This exterior paint job was 2.5 days to complete.  Here is how it turned out.
